Speak Your Truth

Speak your truth. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? I have been mindfully living and speaking my truth for some time. Which means, I communicate with intention. Yet, I was reminded recently how speaking your truth can be a challenge even for those that focus on it daily. There are a few things to consider when one engages in this mindset.

First, to speak your truth means you are in alignment with yourself. I have found that when one is aligned with the self, it is easier to live from the inside out and move forward with fullness and peace. What does it mean to speak your truth and be in alignment? You have an awareness of the self in which you know what makes you happy, feel safe, have fun, and be at peace. These needs are then spoken and acted upon. It is a game changer.

Second, your truth is enough. Fear can creep in when we speak our truth. We wonder if the other person will still like me if I am honest. Will they judge or hate me? Does my truth hurt another person’s feelings? It is important to not intend to hurt someone else. Yet, your number one job is to protect and take care of yourself. Thus, your truth must come first. No matter what.

Third, your truth is beautiful. It is a unique verse that is only sung by your soul. It is as original as your fingerprint and as beautiful as the sunset from your window. It should be cherished and treasured. Nourished.

Living and speaking your truth sounds like a no brainer. However, there can be moments that trip you up. Be mindful. For example, you send the socially acceptable “be the big person” response to a family member’s request about a gathering. You do not honor your feelings and find yourself after the event in emotional turmoil. If you would have acknowledged how you felt in the first place and did not put stock in socially acceptable responses and expectations you would not feel out of alignment and traumatized. Therefore, speaking your truth is essential in the moments that are sweet and savory but also when they are sticky.
